A village in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region was struck by a Russian missile attack on Tuesday, resulting in the death of 10 individuals, as reported by Ukrainian authorities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denounced the attack, emphasizing that it targeted a bustling intersection in Pechenihy, Kharkiv region, an area with essential facilities like a post office and stores, surrounded by residential structures. Zelenskyy shared images of the devastation caused by the assault, including destroyed buildings, blazing cars, and emergency personnel aiding injured individuals.
Governor Oleh Syniehubov of the affected region stated that 17 people were wounded during the attack, which inflicted damage on 10 private residences, a café, a post office, a store, and at least seven vehicles. While there was no immediate response from Russia regarding the incident, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office indicated that Russia employed two small Banderol cruise missiles in the assault.
In a separate development, Ukraine launched a significant drone offensive against Moscow and its environs, deploying 620 drones in the early hours of Tuesday. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin of the Russian capital disclosed that Russian forces managed to down 180 drones over the Moscow region, with emergency services attending to the crash sites. The drone strikes targeted various facilities in the region, including a warehouse belonging to the Russian e-commerce company Wildberries, resulting in injuries to three individuals, including a 10-year-old girl.
Furthermore, Russia warned Britain of repercussions for supplying drones to Ukraine for attacks on Russian territory. The Russian embassy in London issued a statement cautioning that London’s involvement in the conflict and support for Ukraine’s actions would have consequences. Meanwhile, Britain’s Defence Ministry reiterated its commitment to assisting Ukraine in defending against the Russian invasion, mentioning a pledge to provide 150,000 drones to Ukraine by the end of 2026 as part of a substantial funding package.
