Blockbuster romance writer Carley Fortune has revealed that her sixth book, “Only in Summer,” is set to launch on May 18, 2027. This new novel revisits Barry’s Bay, Ont., the familiar backdrop of Fortune’s earlier works like “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” and also the town where she grew up.

Fortune disclosed in a newsletter that she purchased a cottage near Barry’s Bay before writing this book, fulfilling a long-standing dream since her family’s lakefront home was sold. The main character in “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, shares a similar aspiration. Known as Ellie, she is the cousin of Charlie and Sam from Fortune’s previous Barry’s Bay tales. Ellie, who spent her youth in Barry’s Bay, aims to acquire property there. However, her plans are disrupted when a neighboring house is torn down to make way for a grand residence.

While Fortune has kept much of the plot under wraps, one can anticipate a hesitant romance unfolding in the serene lakeside ambiance. The author, based in Toronto, has a background in journalism and editing for prominent publications. Her earlier works include “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.”

“Meet Me at the Lake” was a finalist on Canada Reads in 2024, advocated for by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel to feature on the show. “Every Summer After” was adapted into the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After,” renewed for a second season, while Netflix Canada is developing a 10-episode series based on “This Summer Will Be Different.”
