An individual from Annapolis Valley is charged with attempted murder and multiple weapons offenses following a shooting incident involving a woman known to him who sustained critical injuries and was hospitalized. Ryan Alexander Cole, 36, appeared briefly in Nova Scotia Provincial Court and his case was adjourned until August 25, while he remains in custody.

The incident unfolded on a Saturday morning in South Farmington, Annapolis Valley, prompting a police response to a reported shooting. The suspect fled the scene in a damaged Mazda sedan towards Halifax. Law enforcement pursued the vehicle, deploying a spike belt on the highway in an attempt to stop it. The suspect evaded the device and was subsequently tracked from the air.

The Mazda eventually came to a halt after colliding with a tree as the suspect tried to navigate a hiking trail behind a shopping mall in the Bedford suburb of Halifax. The suspect then fled on foot, leading to the issuance of an alert by the RCMP.

RCMP Corporal Mandy Edwards emphasized the public safety risk when dealing with a suspected armed individual, prompting localized alerts in the Bedford area before extending to a wider emergency alert across HRM. The arrest operation involving police dog teams and emergency response units from both RCMP and Halifax Regional Police culminated in Cole’s apprehension.

Although confirming a connection between Cole and the victim, Edwards could not specify the nature of their relationship. Cole has an extensive criminal history dating back to 2008, including various charges such as breaching release conditions, disarming a police officer, resisting arrest, and unauthorized sharing of intimate images.
