Red Pheasant Man Receives 6-Year Term for “Horrific” Crimes

A man from Red Pheasant Cree Nation has been handed a six-year prison term for what the judge described as “horrific” offenses. Blaisen Nicotine, 27, admitted to inappropriately touching two minors and sharing child pornography.

During Nicotine’s sentencing at Battleford Court of King’s Bench, Justice Brenda Hildebrandt condemned the acts as appalling. One incident occurred at a school on Red Pheasant Cree Nation, south of the Battlefords, as per RCMP reports following a tip-off from the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children.

Nicotine, a student at the school, was caught filming himself masturbating in a bathroom stall, then lured a young student to him and recorded the encounter on his phone. He later circulated the video on social media. The second victim, a 13-year-old who initially claimed to be 18, engaged in sexual activities with Nicotine over a 10-day period.

The victims’ identities remain confidential due to a publication ban, with no victim impact statements submitted to the court. Crown prosecutor Danie Cillers and defense attorney Daryl Royer jointly suggested the six-year imprisonment, taking Nicotine’s troubled background into account.

Nicotine, expressing remorse in court, sought forgiveness and expressed regret for his actions. Despite the judge acknowledging the relatively lenient sentence, it was deemed appropriate given Nicotine’s guilty pleas, sparing the victims from testifying. Nicotine now faces approximately three years and nine months in prison after accounting for time served.
