Peter Brown, a professor at Western University, anticipates an impressive display of Earth-grazing meteors during this year’s shower. These meteors are known for their brightness and speed, making them a thrilling sight to behold.

The Perseid meteor shower is expected to peak around midnight Eastern Daylight Time, with a potential of up to 120 meteors per hour. However, actual visibility may vary based on viewing conditions.

For optimal viewing, find a dark location away from light pollution and allow your eyes to adjust to the darkness. The radiant point of the meteors is in the constellation Perseus, but they can be seen streaking across the entire sky.

In addition to the Perseids, other meteor showers like the southern delta Aquariids, alpha Capricornids, and kappa Cygnids are also active, increasing the chances of witnessing a shooting star.

On August 12, a partial solar eclipse will be visible in certain regions, with Greenland, Iceland, and Spain experiencing a total eclipse. While Canada won’t witness a total eclipse, viewers can observe the moon taking a small “bite” out of the sun, especially in eastern regions.
