Janet Ellis, the mother of singer Sophie Ellis Bextor, recently shared her experience of enduring ten miscarriages within a span of five years. Despite facing these challenges between the ages of 35 and 40, Janet kept this sorrow hidden from Sophie to shield her from any negative impact on her desire to have children.
Having three children already, Janet, who shares Sophie with her ex-husband Robin Bextor and has two other children with her late husband John Leach, chose not to disclose the miscarriages to her kids, wanting to safeguard their childhoods from the emotional toll. She mentioned that despite seeking medical help at a recurrent miscarriage clinic, the cause behind the repeated miscarriages remained unknown.
Janet expressed her concerns for her children’s well-being and emphasized her decision not to burden Sophie with the distressing news or deter her from starting her own family. The grandson of Janet, Sonny, resides with her after moving out of his family home in west London. In an interview with The Times, Sonny elaborated on his decision to move in with his grandmother, highlighting the improved closeness they now share.
Sonny recalled feeling the need for more personal space at home due to sharing a room with his brothers, leading him to accept his grandmother’s invitation to live with her. He shared that their bond has grown stronger as he helps with household chores like laundry and washing up. Although there are no strict rules in their household, they enjoy meals together while also respecting each other’s space.
While Sonny has not decided on his length of stay with his grandmother, he expressed gratitude for the comfort and companionship she provides. Reflecting on a potential future move, he acknowledged that he would miss the warmth of their home and the special bond they share.
