A man from Russia has been convicted of causing actual bodily harm after Barron Trump, the youngest son of Donald Trump, contacted UK police to report witnessing a woman being attacked during a video call. The incident occurred in London on January 18 last year, as revealed during a trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
Barron Trump, 19, informed authorities that he observed his friend being assaulted by Matvei Rumiantsev. Prosecutors alleged that Rumiantsev was envious of the victim’s relationship with Mr. Trump. During the call to the City of London Police, Mr. Trump’s urgency and concern were emphasized by prosecutor Serena Gates.
Rumiantsev, residing in Canary Wharf, east London, was found guilty of assault causing actual bodily harm and obstructing justice. However, he was acquitted of charges related to rape and intentional strangulation on the same day Barron made the police report, as well as additional allegations from November 2024.
In a subsequent email to investigating authorities, Barron Trump described the brief yet impactful nature of what he witnessed on the call. He recounted seeing a brief glimpse of a man on the call before the victim appeared visibly distressed and the call abruptly ended.
During the emergency call, Barron Trump faced a moment of tension when he was asked to provide more details about the victim. The operator urged him to answer clearly and precisely, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in helping the victim.
According to prosecutor Serena Gates, Rumiantsev’s actions were driven by jealousy towards the victim’s connection with Barron Trump, possibly influenced by his high public profile.
