Newly released footage captures the aftermath of a tragic explosion at an illegal fireworks factory, resulting in devastating consequences. This incident occurred in central Thailand, where one worker lost their life, and three others sustained severe injuries due to a fireball engulfing the facility. The factory, operating with an expired license, was engaged in producing pyrotechnics for the upcoming Lunar New Year festivities when a stockpile ignited, causing a massive blast at the warehouse located in Suphanburi province, approximately 70 miles north of Bangkok. The explosion, occurring at 7:52 am local time, tore through the predominantly wooden structure of the building.
Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement discovered the deceased worker, identified as 58-year-old Saneh Thongsrilang. The injured individuals, Chaiya Kaewboondee (38), Wiroj Plerdplern (58), and Amnat Phophan (49), were promptly transported to the hospital with critical conditions. Video recordings from the site depict charred debris strewn across the premises, leaving only the wooden framework and supporting columns intact. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the explosion’s cause and have commenced interrogating the building’s owner.
Local emergency services issued a social media alert to residents, urging them to clear the way for rescue operations following the fireworks explosion incident in Ban Dong Kra Chao, Rai Rot subdistrict. Subsequent updates confirmed the successful containment of the fire, ensuring the nearby Dong Krachao Buddhist temple remained unharmed. Expressing concerns about safety hazards associated with fireworks production in the region, a resident emphasized the need for ending such activities to safeguard lives and property.
Thailand has grappled with a series of illegal fireworks factory explosions over the years, attributed to lenient safety oversight, a thriving underground economy, and limited resources in rural areas. A recent incident in Suphanburi saw another illegal fireworks factory erupt, claiming nine lives and injuring five individuals. The discovery of victims’ bodies amid the wreckage highlighted the perilous conditions of such unauthorized operations. Similarly, in Narathiwat province in 2023, a catastrophic explosion at an illegal fireworks warehouse resulted in the loss of at least 12 lives, over 120 injuries, and extensive damage to numerous homes and structures.
