“Marius Borg Høiby Faces 32 Charges, Trial Set for February”

The eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, Marius Borg Høiby, is set to face 32 charges in court, including alleged rape, domestic abuse, violence, making death threats, and multiple traffic violations. Recently, he was hit with six additional charges, the most serious being drug trafficking across Norway. His trial is scheduled to commence on February 3 in Oslo and is anticipated to last until mid-March.

Despite the upcoming trial, Marius will be on his own in court as his mother and stepfather, Crown Prince Haakon, have confirmed their absence from the legal proceedings. The Royal Family has decided not to comment on the trial and will continue with their official duties. The Crown Princess, Marius’ mother, will spend time at a private residence during this period.

In a statement released on the Norwegian Royal Family website, it was expressed that thoughts are with all involved parties, acknowledging the impact on families and loved ones. Emphasizing the importance of the rule of law, it was assured that the trial will be conducted fairly and properly.

Although Marius Borg Høiby is not considered part of the Royal House, he is recognized as an essential family member and a citizen of Norway with equal rights and responsibilities. The Royal Family, who had previously remained silent on the matter, openly discussed the upcoming court case and its effects on the family. Crown Princess Mette-Marit addressed the seriousness of the allegations against her son, emphasizing the need for legal proceedings to handle the matter appropriately.

When officially charged in August 2025, State Attorney Sturla Henriksbø emphasized the gravity of the case and underscored that royal status should not grant special treatment. If found guilty, the 29-year-old could face a maximum of 10 years in prison.
