A dog owner in Nottinghamshire, Tia Bradley, expressed shock and disbelief after police confiscated three of her pets over allegations that they were banned XL Bullies. The incident unfolded while Tia was at work and received a distressing call from her partner warning of the impending seizure. Upon returning home, she was confronted by a significant police presence, causing her distress.
Claiming that her dogs were wrongfully labeled as XL Bullies, Tia recounted the intimidating situation where authorities surrounded her property with a dozen officers in multiple vehicles. She was even asked if she wanted to surrender the dogs for destruction, despite the animals never causing any harm or displaying aggressive behavior.
Following the seizure, one of the dogs, Lyla, was eventually returned home after being determined not to be an XL Bully. However, two other dogs, Lexi and Zeke, remain in police custody despite Tia’s insistence that they are not of the banned breed. While she asserts that Lexi is an American Bulldog and Zeke is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix, the police have identified them as American Pitbull Terriers, prohibited under the Dangerous Dogs Act.
In an effort to prove the breed of her dogs, Tia is seeking private evaluations, aiming to raise funds for this purpose. A court hearing is scheduled for February 6 to decide the fate of the dogs, with a defense expert set to testify. Tia expressed dismay over the handling of her dogs in kennels, citing instances of distress and health issues, including weight loss and allergies.
Nottinghamshire Police has refrained from commenting on the ongoing case. Tia remains resolute in her fight to have her dogs returned and is determined to challenge the police’s assessment. The situation has been financially burdensome as she faces mounting kennel costs and emotional strain, hoping for a resolution that allows her beloved pets to come home.
