Police in Georgia are on the lookout for a man suspected of abandoning a woman’s body at a hospital before making a hasty escape. Michael Lee Harrelson, aged 47, made an urgent plea for help at Doctors Hospital in Augusta late on Monday night. However, nurses discovered that the woman in his car was already deceased. Following the incident on January 19, a nurse trailed Harrelson back to his vehicle and found an unresponsive woman in the passenger seat. As medical staff rushed to transport her inside, Harrelson reportedly fled the scene. Authorities have issued a public appeal on social media for any information leading to the identification of Harrelson.
The deceased woman was later identified as Selena Johnson, 41, from Hephzibah, located approximately 16 miles from Augusta. Her identity was confirmed through fingerprint analysis. Johnson was declared dead at 10:50 pm, and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death. The relationship between Harrelson and Johnson remains undisclosed by the police.
Harrelson is now a person of interest in the investigation of the “suspicious death” and is also wanted for unrelated offenses, as per local news outlet WRDW. At present, no charges have been filed against him in connection with Johnson’s demise. Descriptions of Harrelson indicate he is 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing around 153 pounds, bald, with brown eyes. Authorities urge the public to immediately contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office if they encounter Harrelson or have information on his whereabouts.
The sheriff’s office released a statement saying, “Michael Lee Harrelson is wanted for questioning in reference to a suspicious death that occurred on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Doctor’s Hospital. Michael Harrelson has active warrants through this agency from unrelated cases.” Individuals who have any details on Harrelson’s location are advised to contact Inv. Terrance Miller at 706-821-1453, or any On-Duty Violent Crimes Investigator with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at 706-821-1020 or 706-821-1080.
