“TV Licence Fee to Increase to £180 in April: Are You Eligible for a Refund?”

The cost of a TV licence is increasing once again. However, if you no longer require a TV licence, you may be eligible for a refund. The current fee is £174.50 per year, which will rise to £180 starting in April. It is mandatory to have a TV licence to watch or record live television or to access any content, whether live or catch-up, on BBC iPlayer.

If you solely watch catch-up shows on streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, ITVX, Disney Plus, YouTube, All 4, or My5 – excluding BBC iPlayer, you do not need a TV licence. Nevertheless, if you stream live shows through these services, a TV licence is required. Failure to comply could lead to a fine of up to £1,000 for watching TV programs that necessitate a TV licence.

In the event that you no longer require your TV licence before its expiry date, you may be entitled to a refund if there is at least one month remaining on it. Additionally, if you qualify for an over-75 or blind concession, you are also eligible for a refund. Remember, failure to have a TV licence when watching programs that require one may result in a fine of up to £1,000.
