Apple has officially unveiled its latest smartphone, the iPhone 17e, confirming the speculations that were circulating. Following the iPhone 16e from the previous year, the new model maintains Apple’s approach of offering significant features at a more budget-friendly price compared to its premium counterparts.
Priced at £599, the iPhone 17e is more affordable than the iPhone 17 by over £200 and £500 cheaper than the 17 Pro. It now comes with a base storage of 256GB, which is twice the capacity of its predecessor.
Among the notable upgrades is the inclusion of the speedy A19 chip that enhances performance compared to the A18 processor in the iPhone 16e. Additionally, the device features Apple’s latest C1X cellular modem, promising double the speed of the previous C1 for faster downloads and seamless streaming on cellular networks.
The iPhone 17e sports a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display for vivid visuals, protected by Apple’s durable Ceramic Shield glass to resist scratches and impacts. Improved anti-reflective technology reduces glare for better visibility in bright conditions.
A new addition is MagSafe, enabling faster wireless charging and compatibility with accessories like wallets and stands that can be easily attached to the phone. Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the 48MP Fusion camera that offers advanced sensor capabilities for improved zoom and composition, supporting 4K video recording with Dolby Vision at 60 frames per second.
Safety features are emphasized, with Emergency SOS via satellite for sending messages without cellular coverage and Crash Detection that automatically contacts emergency services in case of a severe car accident.
The iPhone 17e will be available in black, white, and a new soft pink finish, with pricing starting at £599. Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing, highlighted the device’s powerful performance, enhanced features, and exceptional value, making it an appealing choice for customers seeking to upgrade within the iPhone 17 series.
