Legendary jockey Frankie Dettori concluded his career on a high note by winning a major race in Brazil, marking the first step towards the country’s Triple Crown. Initially planning to retire at Ascot’s Champions Day in October 2023, Dettori changed his mind and extended his career in the US.
At the age of 55, Dettori announced last November that he would retire after the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar, followed by a farewell tour in South America, culminating at Gavea racecourse in Rio de Janeiro. During the event, he clinched victory on Speak Alpha and Bet You Can in the Brazilian 2,000 Guineas, the Grande Premio Estado do Rio De Janeiro.
This final triumph allowed Dettori to showcase his iconic flying dismount celebration. Reflecting on his last day as a jockey, Dettori expressed his emotions, stating, “I never expected to win a Group 1 on my last day. It’s been brilliant. I’ve had a beautiful career, and I’m grateful to walk away unscathed.”
While bidding farewell to his jockey career, Dettori revealed his future plans as a global ambassador for Kia Joorabchian’s Amo Racing. In a heartfelt message to his fans on social media, Dettori acknowledged the impact of horse racing on his life, thanking his family, colleagues, and supporters for their unwavering love and encouragement throughout his remarkable journey.
