“Survivor of Pregnancy Abuse Finds Strength to Rebuild”

A 24-year-old woman, Maisie Henderson, shared her harrowing experience of enduring abusive behavior from her former partner while pregnant, praying for her unborn child’s safety during a brutal attack. Freddy Smith, also known as Campbell, was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to charges including wounding with intent and controlling behavior. Maisie, a mother of two from Ryton in Gateshead, expressed her relief at breaking free from the abusive relationship and now seeks a peaceful life.

Reflecting on her past, Maisie recalled meeting Smith in school and initially thinking highly of him. However, as their relationship progressed, his violence escalated, especially during her pregnancies. Smith engaged in multiple violent incidents, using weapons like a razor blade, a metal pole, and a sword against Maisie. Despite the trauma, Maisie described how Smith manipulated her into accepting the abuse as normal, leaving her feeling trapped and fearful.

Following Smith’s arrest and subsequent six-year sentence, Maisie strives to rebuild her life, focusing on her education in nursing and midwifery. She acknowledges the lasting impact of the abuse on her trust in others but finds solace in her children, family, and friends. Maisie encourages victims of domestic violence to seek help, emphasizing the importance of support and safety.
