Nigel Farage has accumulated over £151,000 in funded air travel expenses to back Donald Trump since he became a Member of Parliament. Recently, Farage was present at an event at Trump’s Mar A Lago resort honoring US Military Veterans, just before Trump made disrespectful remarks about British troops who served in Afghanistan.
Farage was revealed to be advising Hossein Ghandehari, an Iranian-born businessman, during his visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland this week. Despite portraying himself as a champion for ordinary people, Farage spent a significant portion of his initial year as an MP shuttling back and forth across the Atlantic, with affluent supporters covering the costs.
In November, Nigerian-born Lebanese billionaire Bassim Haidar paid £54,921 for flights for Farage and two companions to attend a veterans’ gathering at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. Additionally, last February, GB News sponsored nearly £8,000 for Farage to participate in the pro-Trump CPAC conference in Washington DC.
Entries in the Commons Register of Interests show a predominance of Trump-related trips. In January of the previous year, crypto investor and Reform party donor Christopher Harborne funded £27,616 for travel and accommodation expenses for Trump’s inauguration. This was after covering £32,836 the previous summer for Farage to travel to the US and campaign for Trump’s re-election, sparking controversy over potential ties to the Trump campaign.
Other entries include a £15,276 flight to meet tech mogul Elon Musk, who later criticized Farage as “weak,” and a donor-funded trip costing £3,353 to the now-disbanded New York Young Republicans Club. Another flight, valued at £9,353 and financed by George Cottrill, took Farage to an event hosted by the pro-Trump American group National Conservatism in Belgium.
A spokesperson from the Green Party criticized Farage, labeling him a fraud for projecting patriotism while associating with the American far right, especially in light of Trump’s disrespectful actions towards British troops.
