Embark Studios, the creator of the highly popular ARC Raiders extraction shooter, has announced that the game will be receiving ‘multiple maps’ later this year.
Currently, ARC Raiders features five main maps, each offering its own distinct theme and loot for players to explore. These maps are unlocked based on the number of game matches played, with most dedicated players already having access to all five maps.
The dynamic nature of gameplay in ARC Raiders ensures that no two matches on the same map feel repetitive, offering a wide range of scenarios depending on encounters with enemy ARC robots or other players searching for loot. In response to the demand for new content, Embark Studios is set to introduce additional maps.
Virgil Watkins, a design lead on ARC Raiders, revealed in an interview with GamesRadar+ that multiple maps are scheduled for release this year, varying in size to cater to different gameplay styles. Watkins hinted at the possibility of seeing smaller maps as well as grander ones than the current offerings.
While the Spaceport map currently stands as the largest play space in the game, measuring approximately 1.6 x 1.4km, the densely packed interiors of other maps give the impression of a larger scale. Future updates are expected to introduce diverse play spaces, potentially featuring unique weather events for added gameplay challenges.
The latest major update for ARC Raiders, Cold Snap, introduced a Frostbite mechanic that imposes damage on Raiders in snowstorms, along with a new Goalie Raider Deck. However, the update did not include new maps.
Although the timeline for the release of new maps remains uncertain, ARC Raiders continues to maintain a strong player base, attracting 350,000 daily players consistently. With the upcoming release of Bungie’s Marathon posing new competition in the extraction game genre, Embark Studios faces the challenge of keeping ARC Raiders competitive in the market.
