The equestrian community in Britain is in mourning following the tragic death of a rider who fell from her horse during an event. Sarah Yorke, aged 37, was participating in the Aston-le-Walls Horse Trials in Northamptonshire when the incident occurred. Despite immediate medical attention at the scene, she could not be saved, according to a statement from British Eventing. Her horse, MGH HERA, was unharmed and returned to the stables after being checked by on-site veterinarians.
The competition, which included dressage, cross-country, and show jumping phases, was canceled by British Eventing officials on Saturday. Yorke, who had previously emerged victorious, was making her debut in the BE100 class with her seven-year-old horse.
Rosie Williams, the Chief Executive of British Eventing, extended heartfelt condolences to Yorke’s family and friends on behalf of the organization. The entire eventing community stands in support during this difficult time.
British Eventing announced a comprehensive review of the incident and highlighted the availability of the BE Support Trust helpline for those in need of assistance. The Trust is collaborating with Sporting Chance to offer mental health support to anyone affected by the tragedy, with a dedicated hotline available at all times for those seeking help.
