US immigration authorities have been linked to a total of 26 shootings since the commencement of President Donald Trump’s second term in January 2025. Among these incidents, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have been involved in 11 shootings, with the most recent occurrence taking place in Minneapolis.
A disturbing video surfaced recently, depicting ICE agents firing at an unarmed individual while attempting to subdue them in Minneapolis near Glam Doll Donuts. The footage, shared on social media, captured the agents shooting at the person as they lay motionless on the ground.
Of the 26 shootings involving ICE since Trump’s second term began, six have resulted in fatalities, according to compiled reports involving ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). These incidents have occurred across 15 states and the District of Columbia during various situations such as traffic stops, arrests, border actions, and off-duty events. Both ICE and CBP operate under the Department of Homeland Security.
Notably, a significant number of the shootings have involved officers firing at or into moving vehicles. The Wall Street Journal highlighted at least 13 cases since July 2025 where immigration officers shot at or into civilian vehicles, resulting in multiple injuries and fatalities, including US citizens.
The first fatal shooting during this period occurred on January 20, 2025, in Coventry, Vermont, involving CBP agents. Subsequent fatal incidents included the shooting of a Mexican man in Rio Grande City, Texas, by CBP agents and the killing of Keith Porter, a Black father, in Los Angeles by an off-duty ICE agent. The circumstances surrounding these events have sparked controversy and raised questions about the use of force by immigration authorities.
Various other shootings, resulting in injuries but no deaths, have occurred during immigration operations, including incidents in Chicago, Portland, and Glen Burnie, Maryland. Additionally, protests and public outcry have followed some of these incidents, shedding light on the actions of immigration agents and the consequences of their use of force.
Overall, the series of shootings involving ICE agents have raised concerns and scrutiny regarding the tactics employed by immigration authorities during enforcement operations. The incidents have underscored the need for transparency and accountability in law enforcement actions, particularly in cases involving the use of deadly force.
