A 15-year-old boy has confessed to the killing of 12-year-old Leo Ross in a random stabbing incident at a park in Birmingham on January 21, 2025. Leo was attacked while walking home from school and succumbed to stab wounds despite efforts from passers-by and emergency services.
Leo, described by his family as a kind and loving boy, became the youngest victim of knife crime in the West Midlands. The defendant, who was 14 at the time, pled guilty to the murder, as well as other charges related to previous attacks. Investigations revealed that the knife used in the stabbing was disposed of in a nearby river, and the perpetrator falsely claimed innocence.
The young offender had assaulted several women before targeting Leo in what authorities believe was a random and unprovoked attack. Following a delay for psychiatric evaluation, the defendant entered his guilty pleas, with sentencing scheduled for February 10. The CPS emphasized the devastating impact of the violence on Leo’s family and condemned the senseless act.
Det Insp Joe Davenport commended those who tried to save Leo, calling the incident heartbreaking and unjust. Leo’s family expressed their grief over the loss of a beloved boy and thanked the community for their support. A memorial service was held at Leo’s school to honor his memory, with tributes recognizing his unique personality and interests.
